A wave of reports across regional news outlets says the United Arab Emirates has temporarily suspend new Visit and Work Visa applications from citizens of nine countries, a move that has sparked alarm among travellers, recruiters and several affected governments even as questions remain over whether the decision is official.
According to the reports and an immigration circular cited by travel-industry websites, the list of nations affected includes Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Sudan and Uganda. Those reports say the suspension is “effective immediately and until further notice,” though details about scope, duration and the exact types of visas covered vary between outlets.

The news has produced immediate uncertainty. Several affected countries’ diplomatic missions and governments have scrambled to verify the claims. The Bangladeshi ambassador to the UAE publicly denied that a formal ban had been issued against Bangladesh, saying the embassy had received no official notification from UAE authorities and suggesting that some viral posts originated from non-official visa-processing websites.
